NESA Spring Educators Conference. The Spring Educators Conference is a three-and-a-half-day conference for educators of all grades and disciplines, featuring keynotes, 4-hour workshops and multi-day offerings presented by specialist speakers, general interest sessions, and teacher-presented workshops. Have a look at the learning that is happening via the brand new Professional Learning School in the AIS Atlas system and/or via the Twitter hashtag #nesachat. #knowledgeable

Teacher/Principal/Counselor/Teacher Leader Training Centers. Institutes are held each June-July in London and Miami and include intensive 7-day and 5-day courses addressing the essential skills necessary to be an effective leader, teacher, and counselor in an international school.   • #AISQ8chat. Did you know that #AISQ8chat celebrated its one year anniversary recently? Join the gang Tuesday for this week’s slow chat. Details about how to participate can be found here. Tips for participating:
    • Chat questions are released each Sunday.
    • During our Tuesday slow chats we usually release Q1 by 8am, Q2 at 11am and Q3 by 2pm (just in time for the meetings!). However you are welcome to reply to any question at any point throughout the day.
    • When you have time on Sunday and Monday, start formulating your As to the weekly Qs. Then use Hootsuite to schedule them for Tuesday so that you don’t have to take time away from teaching. [Don’t worry, you can still edit pending Tweets if you change your mind.]
    • When you do have a couple free minutes on Tuesday, browse #AISQ8chat and engage in the conversation. Ask the community clarifying or probing questions. Twitter is your Personal Learning Community – you will get out what you put in. 🙂

  • Coursera. Coursera is an education platform that partners with top universities and organizations worldwide, to offer courses online for anyone to take, for FREE. Dare to be a Courserian! #balanced
  • University of Southern California Rossier’s online graduate programs:
    • Master of Arts in Teaching: Prepares K–12 teachers to succeed in the classroom and create positive learning environments to meet the challenges of today’s high-need schools. This program also prepares candidates to be recommended for a teaching credential, and they can choose to enhance their degree with a Special Education Credential or Gifted Education Certificate.
    • Master of Arts in Teaching — TESOL: Prepares teachers to specialize in teaching English to non-native speakers and work in a wide range of settings.
    • Doctor of Education (EdD) in Organizational Change and Leadership: Prepares current teachers and educational leaders to drive systemic change in their organizations. A master’s degree is not required.

  • Addressing Challenges. This blog post addresses how instructional coaching strategies can help to solve day-to-day challenges confronted by leaders, teams, and individual teachers.
  • Coaching Challenges. Matt Smith reflects on his coaching journey, its challenges, and its rewards here.
  • Critical Friends. Enjoy the National School Reform Faculty monthly newsletter, Connections. The cover story is from NSRF Director Michele Mattoon and describes the reasons that Change is hard, but CFG communities and NSRF protocols can make it easier.  Recognizing the reasons that people resist change is a powerful learning, and then recognizing how our work can help resolve that resistance is even better! NSRF National Facilitators from two different parts of the country share two different variations on the Tuning Protocol, making different “hybrid versions” to allow multiple pieces of work to be tuned during one protocol session. Guest writers from the PERTS Program at Stanford University reveal the hand-in-glove ways that CFG coaches’ training fits within their Growth Mindset model for adult and student learners.
  • Mentoring vs. Coaching. Ildiko Murray shares the evolution of a professional relationship from from the role of mentor to the role of instructional coach.
  • Well-Played. This resource for grades K – 2 promotes building mathematical thinking through number games and puzzles. The entire book is currently available online for your perusal.
